The legacy you’ll join
The contribution that Rangi Ruru makes to the lives of young girls is for now and the future. The Rangi Ruru family has a proud legacy that has stood strong for over 125 years.
Our commitment to every girl is that at Rangi Ruru she will be inspired, challenged and empowered within a community that knows and cares for her. She will leave Rangi Ruru a connected and curious citizen with the belief in herself to pursue her dreams and the ability to contribute positively to her community.
Every girl is encouraged and supported to reach her full potential and each year Rangi Ruru is among the top New Zealand schools for a wide range of academic, sporting, creative and cultural activities. More than 95% of Rangi students go on to further tertiary study in New Zealand and overseas, many gaining substantial scholarships as a result of their work at school.
A bequest to Rangi Ruru can transform the lives of girls
Rangi Ruru fosters a love of learning, generosity of spirit and philanthropy. The name of the school was suggested by an old Maori Chief of Rapaki Pa, Paora Taki. It is translated “wide sky shelter” and stands for hospitality and generosity.
Since 1889 Rangi Ruru Girls’ School has been developed and sustained by gifts and donations. The benevolence from its founders, the Gibson sisters, is appreciated from generation to generation and without this culture of philanthropy Rangi Ruru would not have the inspirational teaching and learning, and the wonderful facilities that enrich the students today.
Benefactors recognise the importance of girls’ education and understand that the healthy development of the mind, spirit and body will ultimately go beyond the classroom.
A gift to Rangi Ruru is a lasting legacy that will help safeguard the school for future generations.
