The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre was founded in March 2004 to provide quality music therapy services to children and adolescents with special needs, including cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, development delay disorders and a range of intellectual and physical disabilities. These children and young people have limited or no opportunity to interact and participate with other members of their community via sports and cultural activities and thus are very isolated. Music therapy provides them with a rare and exciting opportunity to communicate and participate in the world around them while also assisting with the growth and development of their vocal skills, language, concentration, memory, mobility and social and behavioural skills. This in turn leads to improved development at school and in their home and immediate community environments.
Earlier this year we celebrated our eleventh birthday and expanded our services into new areas of Auckland, through Outreach programmes and extension of our Grey Lynn Centre’s hours to six days per week. We also now work with a small number of adults with special needs and are seeing an increase in demand for these services this year.
A bequest to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust (our official charitable trust name) will help us to continue to provide music therapy services to more people with special needs and to expand our services to work with other children and young people in other areas of Auckland and beyond. We can make provision to use your gift for a specific purpose if you wish, such as providing music therapy sessions for a person in need, repairing and replacing musical instruments or alternatively we can choose where your gift will best be used.
