There are currently over 10,000 New Zealand children in foster care. They are New Zealand’s most vulnerable children - children who have been removed from their biological parents, generally because of abuse or neglect.
Because these children are often traumatised and scared, they can display challenging behaviours like self-harming, food hoarding and aggression. It can take years for these kids to heal and to learn to love and trust again.
Children in care require a wide range of supports to help them achieve their full potential at school, in the community, in their personal life and with family and friends. It’s therefore important that foster families have free access to professional support and specialised training to help these children.
Fostering Kids New Zealand supports families to provide children with a stable, loving home for as long as it’s needed and to do their absolute best for vulnerable children in need. With lots of love, patience and guidance, children’s lives are transformed for the better.
Your bequest to Fostering Kids New Zealand will ensure we can continue to support thousands of amazing caregivers who selflessly open their hearts and homes to children in need. These children will hopefully go on to raise their own children in a safe and loving environment and therefore break the intergenerational cycle of abuse and neglect.
Thank you for caring enough to create better futures for an exceptional group of children and young people who deserve so much more in life.
“Thank you for the professional training you provide. It helps us to be better equipped for the kids in our care” – a foster dad who recently attended ‘Attachment and Resilience training’.
