Haemophilia Foundation of New Zealand Inc. (HFNZ) aims to promote excellence in care, education, advocacy and support to all people with bleeding disorders in New Zealand and their families/whanau.
Haemophilia and other inheritable bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand’s Disorder are rare lifelong chronic conditions. In people with bleeding disorders, the blood platelets or proteins called clotting factors do not work correctly or are in short supply. This means their blood cannot clot properly and they can suffer extended bleeding, especially after injury, surgery, or sometimes just doing daily tasks that most of us take for granted.
HFNZ creates ways to assist those affected by haemophilia and related bleeding disorders and unify the community.
Through our Outreach Workers, innovative educational initiatives and camps, physical activity and supportive footwear programmes, and educational grants, HFNZ is able to assist people with these chronic disorders through all stages of their life. Your bequest helps us provide the tools to give people with bleeding disorders a voice and try to ensure they receive the best care that medicine can offer – as despite advances in genetic technology a cure remains elusive.
