The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre was established in March 2004 to provide music therapy services to individuals with special needs. Now in our 13th year of operation, we continue to be the only music therapy centre in New Zealand. Music therapy is the planned use of music to assist with the healing and personal growth of people with identified emotional, intellectual, physical or social needs. In music therapy sessions, each person experiences music improvised uniquely with and for them. They interact and communicate musically, expressing themselves in whatever way they can - using their body, voice or musical instruments.
Our clinical services are managed and delivered through our Centre in Grey Lynn and as demand for music therapy services has grown, the Centre has expanded across Auckland to operate five satellites in the region, as well as providing 15 outreach partnerships with schools and other organisations. We currently work with over 200 clients per week across Auckland, ranging in age from 22 months old to 60 years of age. Our clients have a range of special needs, including cerebral palsy, autism spectrum and other developmental disorders, genetic disorders such as Down syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, mental health disorders, bereavement, and poor community engagement due to socioeconomic and family challenges. Through the delivery of music therapy services we assist in the growth, development and well-being of individuals our clients. Furthermore the benefits of the work we do impacts our clients’ whanau and the wider communities in which they live. We change lives through music.
Thank you for considering leaving a gift in your will to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust (the official name of our Charitable Trust). We receive no statutory funding and need to raise $750,000 each year to continue to keep the Centre, and all of our outreach and satellite programmes, running. By leaving a gift in your will, you will help us not only to continue to provide music therapy services to our current clients but to reach out to more people with special needs, expanding our services to other regions and populations. We can make provision to use your gift for a specific purpose if you wish or alternatively we can choose where your gift will best be used. Any donation – large or small - is gratefully received and we thank you for considering us!
